Every good website adheres to search engine optimization rules in order to drive traffic to their website and jewelry is no exception. The following 10 ways will definitely improve your jewelry website’s internet footprint:

1. Title tags should not have more than 60 characters (approximately 8-10 words).

2. Begin the title tag with the unique, specific content and then move on to general information. A common error made by most websites is that they begin with the organization name and then mention the unique content.

3. Description tags add to the value of a website. Although they are not as important as the title tag, they do influence your search engine rankings. Make sure that you write a compelling and crisp summary of the content on the page, not exceeding thirty words. 

4. An index or site map is a good idea. Ensure that the map is available from the homepage in text format and is updated on a regular basis.

 5. Keep your pages light. The lesser the HTML code, the better. Smaller HTML code size makes it easier for a search engine to catalog your page.

6. Always make sure the weight of the page in a website does not exceed 50 KB (including graphics).

7. Make sure that your website is published as a static HTML website. A dynamic website proves useful only when you have dynamic content that needs to be published. A static HTML website is cheaper to publish, the pages download faster and search engines find it easier to index.

8. Avoid Flash since search engines do not like indexing Flash-based pages. Only use flash when very, very essential.

9. Avoid PDFs; a PDF file is a sign of a poorly-managed website. Although search engines have become better at cataloging PDF file, it is still suggested that you must publish the heading and the summary in HTML.

10. Caption and title all images or photographs on your website. This will help search engines index your content faster.
